A big, cosy tweed acorn for autumn

Hi Reader,

It's definitely turning chilly now (in fact I've been wearing two jumpers while I'm sat working the past couple of days!) But that also means it's crochet season, and I have definitely been busy!

My tweed acorn pattern is out today - I actually designed this over a year ago but didn't have time to release it last autumn!

Worked in worsted weight tweed yarn and stuffed so it holds its shape, it measures 6.5 x 3.5 inches (16.5 x 9 cm). It’s an easy make that takes about 1-2 hours, and the flecked tweed yarn gives it a lovely natural, woody look in autumn maple and red clay.

You can make it for free on the blog here: ACORN BLOGPOST LINK

There’s also a video tutorial showing you how to make it, which you can watch on my YouTube channel here.

If you’d like the pattern as a PDF, it’s available today on Etsy and Ravelry in both US and UK crochet terms. The PDF includes the acorn and a matching oak leaf of the same size, so you can make the pair together.

The oak leaf pattern will be free on the blog on Monday, so keep an eye on your inbox for that one.

My October birthday sale is still running, so this is a lovely time to pick up the PDF at 40% off.

A small favour, if you have a moment. I’m working towards getting my YouTube channel monetised, and every subscribe, view and watch really helps. If you enjoy the tutorials, I’d be so grateful if you’d subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/@concretegemscrochet

Finally, a gentle reminder for anyone who’d like to make my woodland advent calendar. If you want it finished in time for Christmas, now is a good time to start. You’ll find it here:

And don't forget

I'm taking part in the Mix and Match MAL with Elimee Designs, a collection of seasonal mosaic crochet patterns that you can mix and match to make a bag, a blanket, or whatever you fancy.

A woman wears a grey and blue crochet tie

Hi Reader, I’ve got something a bit different for you this week. It’s a crochet tie! I had an idea for a men’s tie in slate grey and blue, with the kind of classic, modern look you see in a woven tie, but this one is made with a gorgeous herringbone texture. That became the Slate Mens Tie, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It’s worked in fingering weight yarn with a 3mm hook, uses just a few stitches, and is the full length of a man's tie. It’s an easy-level project, perfect for...

Hi Reader, The weather is definitely getting colder now, which means it's time for autumn beanies! My new Cobnut Beanie pattern is out today. It's worked in the pique stitch, which gives a lovely textured fabric, and it's made in warm autumnal colours. It's crocheted side to side, then seamed, and the brim is folded over to finish it off. It's an easy make that takes around 5-10 hours, and it comes in six sizes, from newborn right up to medium/large adult, so you can make one for the whole...

Hi Reader, We've made it to autumn, and if you've been following the seasonal landscapes project for a while, you'll know this is the one I've been waiting for. Autumn was actually where the whole idea started, back before Spring or Summer even existed as patterns, it was last year’s autumn colours and falling leaves that got me thinking about turning each season into its own crochet picture. So I’m super excited that this collection is finally here. The full pattern is live The complete...
